In September-November 2008, the Wetlands International Black Sea Programme in co-operation with the South Bug Basin Organisation of the State Committee of Ukraine on Water Management, Ukrainian Rivers Network and the Centre of Creative Photo conducted a contest of photos for professionals and amateurs “South Bug River Basin: Environment and People”. An information leaflet about the contest was disseminated among NGOs and photographer groups. The “Digital Photographer” journal provided an information support of the contest.
About 500 photos were received. Qualified jury including as environmentalists as professional photographers identified winners in 2 nominations: professionals and amateurs. Two photos were identified for awarding encouraging prises according to results of Internet voting. All photos were put on the web-site of the Centre of Creative Photo .
On 23 December 2008, the presentation of the project “Towards integrating wetland biodiversity conservation with water and agricultural management in Ukraine. A pilot project in the South Bug River Basin” and awarding ceremony for winners of photos contest were conducted in the Aarhus Information and Training Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine in Kyiv. All winners of the photos contest were awarded by photographer bags with sponsorship of the LOWEPRO.
